If you're learning to drive in Peterborough, you already know that the Orton Parkway and the A1139 can be intimidating. Many students fail their test not because they can't drive, but because of poor lane discipline on our large roundabouts.
1. The "12 O'Clock" Rule
A common mistake at the Hampton roundabout is entering in the wrong lane for the third exit. Remember: if the exit is past 12 o'clock, you almost always need the right-hand lane unless road markings say otherwise.
"I always tell my students: Look at the signs early. If you miss the sign, you've already missed the lane."
2. Dealing with Fast Traffic
In Peterborough, traffic moves fast on the dual carriageways. When approaching roundabouts, your speed should drop, but your observation must increase. Look for the 'gap' before you even arrive at the line.
